Conferences and workshops on global challenges at Reed Exhibitions’ QMan 2008

The Queensland Manufacturing Technology Exhibition (QMan) to be organised by Reed Exhibitions will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from October 21 to 23.

Queensland manufacturing has remained resilient despite a number of global challenges, according to Australian Industry Group (AiGroup), an employer group that will be exhibiting at the Queensland Manufacturing Technology Exhibition (QMan) 2008.

QMan 2008 will provide manufacturers with the ideal opportunity to learn about the latest manufacturing and supply chain tools and techniques.

According to QMI Solutions CEO Jim Walker, Queensland manufacturers should be looking at what they can do to manage key risks.

QMI Solutions will be running a series of free workshops at QMan, which will deal directly with some of these issues. Its QMan workshops will:

  • Showcase the latest manufacturing research projects by Australian universities
  • Look at strategies for dealing with the skills shortage
  • Highlight the work of ICN Queensland, which has been set up to help manufacturers gain supplier access to major projects

Complementing these free seminars, the Queensland chapter of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) will be hosting a conference during QMan.

The conference will be themed Achieving peak performance through people, process and product and will offer presentations on topics such as Lean leadership, Managing the human side of business improvement, Manufacturing sustainability and Incremental sheet forming.

AME’s Queensland chapter president, Rod Moorcroft, said conference delegates would not only learn from the conference presentations, workshops and site tours, but also from each other.

According to Paul Baker, Exhibition Manager at organiser Reed Exhibitions, QMan 2008 is shaping up to be a significant event for Queensland manufacturers, especially for those looking to learn about the latest tools and techniques in manufacturing and supply chain.

More than 95 exhibitors are expected to attend QMan. Key exhibitors who have taken space include Advanced Robotic Technology, Blackwoods, Leap Australia, Multicam Systems, Product Lifecycle Management, Robotic Automation, Shaw Machinery and Treotham Automation.

In addition, QMan 2008 will for the first time incorporate a section devoted to electronics and electrical products and services.

This new section is designed to support Queensland’s growing electronics sector which, according to the Queensland Government, has achieved strong growth in employment, turnover and exports during the past decade.

Industry players who are partnering QMan 2008 include:

  • Platinum sponsor Blackwoods
  • The Association for Manufacturing Excellence
  • QMI Solutions
  • Instrumentation, Control & Automation Australia Inc (IICA)
  • The Australian Industry Group (Ai Group), which represents 10,000 employers in manufacturing, construction, automotive, telecommunications, IT & call centres, transport, labour hire and other industries.
