Kbbl Series - Complete Integrated Drives For Motors With Hall Sensor Feedback

Product/Service Name

Chassis / IP-20 Brushless DC Drive. Models KBBL-2P2D, 2P3D, 2P6D, 21D, 22D, 23D, 24D, 26D, 27, 29.

Function/Applications
Provide the best of DC and AC motion control by providing extended constant torque speed range, accurate speed control, compact motors, fast response, and no brush wear. This is because the BLDC is basically an inside-out permanent magnet (PM) motor with electronic commutation (e.g. a DC motor has a stationary permanent magnet field where as the BLDC has the permanent magnet on the rotor. The DC motor has the mechanically commutated windings on the rotor where as the BLDC has the electronically commutated winding on the stationary stator). BLDC provides the smallest integration of motor, controller, and gear box. This is because of the full torque available over the extended speed range.

Signal isolation is standard on all KBBL drives. Main Speed Potentiometer connections, speed reference signal input, and Hall input connections are all isolated from the AC line.

The KBBL Series Brushless DC Drives provide variable speed control for standard 160 Volt and 300 Volt Brushless DC motors from subfractional thru 3 HP (0.1 – 9 FLA) (x-y nm). The Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) output operates at a carrier frequency of 16 kHz, which provides high motor efficiency, low motor heating, and low noise. Adjustable linear acceleration and deceleration are provided, making the drive suitable for soft-start applications.

Typical Applications: Conveyors; Feeders; Packaging Equipment; Pumps; Blowers; Printing Presses; Indexers; Fans; Treadmills; Door and Gate Openers; Portable Equipment Used with GFCIs1.

Differentiating Features
Due to its user-friendly design, the KBBL is easy to install and operate. Tailoring to specific applications is accomplished with selectable jumpers and trimpots, which eliminate the computer-like programming required on other drives. However, for most applications no adjustments are necessary. For more advanced programming, PC based Drive-Link™ software is available.

Main features include adjustable RMS Current Limit and I2t Motor Overload Protection. In addition, precision speed accuracy is possible over the extended speed range through the use of the Hall Feedback as an encoder. Electronic Inrush Current Limit (EICL™) eliminates harmful AC line inrush current. The drive is suitable for machine or variable torque applications.

For AC line and motor wiring, Models KBBL-2P2D through KBBL-26D contain quick-connect terminals. Models KBBL-27, 29 contain a Barrier Terminal Block. A 5kO Main Speed Potentiometer is included.

Optional accessories include: Class “A” and “B” AC Line Filters, Programming Kit, and Modbus Communication Module. A connector is provided for easy installation of accessories.

Gearboxes and bearings from Baldor reduce conveyor maintenance and energy costs at Corcoran Concrete's quarry (13-Nov-2008)
Conveyor uptime has increased dramatically at Corcoran Concrete's quarry in County Mayo, following a switch to Dodge-brand gearboxes and bearings from Baldor. The decision was made following trials on conveyors in the sand production area of the quarry.

Carbo-Link use Baldor Australia’s Powerlink-compatible controller for producing carbon fibre components (30-Oct-2008)
The Ethernet-compatible Powerlink motion control network is helping the Swiss company Carbo-Link to create carbon fibre components for challenging applications such as rigging for racing yachts. The company has used Powerlink compatible controllers and drives from Baldor Australia to build a machine that winds carbon fibres to form lightweight yet ultra-strong tubes or rods of up to 14 metres in length. The machine has been successful that the company is now building a 50 metre long version to support a much broader range of applications.
