New SLS insights from Arrk at NMW 2008

Arrk  will showcase new Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) materials on stand 2013 during National Manufacturing Week at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre from May 27 to 30.

SLS materials are suited to direct functional applications where performance demands robust resistance to chemicals, heat, wear, abrasion, flexibility and internal/external surface pressures.

A leading provider of 3D printers, rapid prototyping and production moulded components, Arrk has purchased its third in-house SLS system as part of its policy of providing three-dimensional prototypes in the fastest possible time and best materials.

According to Arrk CEO, Simon Marriott, SLS is particularly valuable when there are several operational requirements during a product’s development process.

“For instance, within the automotive industry, engineers may want to quickly create a prototype of an air-conditioning duct to validate the design concept and test drilling and fastening to the car.

“What’s more, the prototype needs to handle both high and low temperatures and perform to the design intent while the car is operating under pressure. It must also be stable enough to be placed on a shelf and re-used weeks or months later,” Marriott said.

Arrk, established in Australia in the early 1990s, has expanded its initial stereolithography (SLA) and rapid plastic models focus to include capabilities such as SLS, rapid CNC, prototype injection moulding, tooling and production moulding.

It offers a complete full-line service from prototype to production, including secondary operations such as painting, pad printing and subassembly.

Meanwhile, Arrk will feature the first multi-material 3D printing system, the Objet Connex500, and a new semi-translucent elastomer, TangoPlus, on Stand 1713 at the exhibition.
